***** UPDATE ***** The water main has been repaired.

NEWS ALERT – WATER MAIN BREAK

Union City, IN/Ohio – February 11, 2026

Public Works crews are currently repairing a water main break at the corner of Highland Avenue and Meadow Drive.

The break appears to be the result of the extreme cold temperatures our region recently experienced, combined with the rapid warm-up over the past few days. These temperature fluctuations can cause ground movement and stress on underground water lines.

What to Expect:

- Water pressure in the surrounding area is currently affected.

- Crews are actively working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

- No boil order is expected at this time.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while repairs are being completed. Updates will be provided if conditions change.

For questions, please contact the Union City Public Works Department.

The Union City Public Works Department continues extensive snow-removal efforts on both sides of our community following recent winter storms.

Crews are actively removing snow from the business districts to help ensure local businesses can remain open and accessible. In addition, alleyways and large snow accumulations at street corners are being addressed as equipment and conditions allow.

Looking ahead, the forecast indicates another storm system with possible snow accumulation in early February, along with very cold temperatures. With this in mind, the City is asking for the community’s help to improve safety and efficiency during ongoing snow operations.

How Residents Can Help

Streets with significant on-street parking have become very narrow due to snow buildup. As snow continues to accumulate, available space for plowing becomes increasingly limited.

When possible, removing parked vehicles from roadways allows Public Works crews to:

- Push snow farther back toward the curbs
- Widen streets for safer traffic flow
- Improve access for emergency and service vehicles

These small actions make a meaningful difference in keeping our streets safe for everyone.

Assistance for Elderly, Disabled, or Ill Residents

The City would also like to remind residents that Public Works crews are available to assist elderly, disabled, or ill community members with priority needs, including:

- Gaining safe access to homes
- Transportation assistance for doctor’s appointments
- Other urgent or essential travel needs

If you or someone you know may need assistance, please contact either Union City administration building, and staff will work to determine how best to help facilitate those needs.

The City of Union City appreciates the patience, cooperation, and community spirit shown during this challenging winter season. Working together helps ensure safety, accessibility, and continuity for residents and businesses alike.

Attention Union City residents:

A significant winter storm is expected to impact our area beginning Saturday and lasting into Monday, bringing several inches of snow, very cold temperatures, and hazardous travel conditions. National Weather Service forecasts indicate snow accumulations over the weekend with cold weather advisories and a winter storm warning in effect for our region.

To assist our street crews in clearing roads quickly and safely, we ask that residents utilize off-street parking whenever possible during and after the storm. This will help plows and emergency vehicles access all roadways more efficiently.

Key reminders:

- Snow expected Saturday into Sunday with continued impacts into Monday.

- Please move vehicles off public streets if you can.

- Drive cautiously and allow extra travel time if driving is necessary.

- Watch for updates and closures on the city website and official social channels.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Union City safe this winter!

Job Information
It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of two storied individuals in the history of Union City. On May 26th, the music world and our community lost Rick Derringer, passing at his Florida home at the age of 77. Derringer moved to Union City, Indiana as a young teen and proceeded to form the band, The McCoys, who would produce the famous hit, "Hang on Sloopy" in 1965. The song would soon be adopted by the Ohio State University Marching Band. Derringer's career as a musician, producer, and songwriter found him crossing paths with a multitude of artists such as Edgar and Johnny Winter, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Bonnie Tyler, and Weird Al Yankovic, which included a grammy award for his work with Yankovic. Derringer's small town roots proved no obstacle for his highly successful career on the world stage, but he also never forgot his roots as he would still make the occasional appearance in Union City, most recently on the Artisan Crossing stage. The likeness of him and his McCoys' band members can be seen on the mural affixed to the wall of the fire department on Chestnut Street We also mourn the passing of Doug Wright, an exemplary firefighter with an amazing 55 years of service. Doug began his service to Union City in 1968, working his way through the ranks to become Fire Chief of the Union City, Ohio department in 1998, a capacity he would hold until 2006. Doug also served on the UCO council. Doug's lifelong dedication to serving and protecting others was a blessing beyond measure to the Union City community and beyond. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of Rick and Doug, and we are thankful for the indelible mark they have left on their respective communities.
