Workhorse announced September 30 that Gateway Fleets has placed an additional order for 200 W56 electric delivery vans, which are manufactured at Workhorse’s facility in Union City, Indiana. The purchase builds on Gateway’s earlier 2026 order for 100 W56 vehicles.

Gateway, a California-based company, is purchasing the trucks through Kingsburg Truck Center and intends to lease them to commercial delivery operators. Its customers primarily handle the final stage of package delivery to homes and businesses.

Gateway’s program combines electric trucks with charging infrastructure, fleet support, and depot access. The approach is designed to help delivery businesses adopt electric vehicles while managing costs and avoiding large upfront investments in trucks and charging equipment.

The W56 vans included in the announcement offer 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space, a 10,000-pound payload capacity, and a nominal driving range of 150 miles per charge. They are purpose-built for delivery routes that require frequent stops.

Vehicles from the new 200-truck order are expected to begin reaching customers in the second half of 2027, with deployments continuing through 2028. Gateway currently operates depots in Southern California and is expanding its network to serve additional delivery operators.

For Union City, the announcement highlights the community’s role in electric commercial vehicle manufacturing. All W56 models are produced at the local Workhorse facility, connecting manufacturing in Union City with delivery operations in other parts of the country.
