Union City is proud to be home to a major step forward in the future of clean transportation. On August 15, 2025, Workhorse Group, which designs and builds zero-emission commercial vehicles right here in Union City, announced a definitive agreement to merge with Motiv Electric Trucks, a leading manufacturer of medium-duty electric trucks and buses.
This merger creates one of North America’s leading medium-duty electric truck manufacturers, combining Workhorse’s proven vehicles, national dealer network, and manufacturing expertise with Motiv’s diverse product portfolio and strong fleet relationships. Together, they will be positioned to serve a $23 billion market with a full range of Class 4–6 electric trucks, designed to reduce emissions, lower operating costs, and help fleets transition to cleaner energy.
The Union City manufacturing facility will play a central role in the combined company’s growth, with the capacity to produce up to 5,000 trucks per year. This is a win not only for the company but for our community, as it strengthens the local economy and reinforces Union City’s place on the map as a hub for innovation in green transportation.
In connection with the merger, Workhorse also completed a $20 million sale-leaseback of the Union City plant, ensuring long-term operational stability, as well as securing funding to support continued production and expansion. These moves signal a strong commitment to keeping operations — and jobs — right here in our city.
